There’s a new beer out that may sound like a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup in a bottle. One Maryland-based brewer has recently come out with a new beer to simulate just that. It’s DuClaw Brewing’s Sweet Baby Jesus that fills the void of the chocolate peanut butter-loving beer drinker. As for the specific details of the beer, it’s a black porter with Fuggle and Goldings hops. It has a bitterness of 53 BU’s and a gravity of 16 plato.

Not sure what a porter type of beer is exactly? Here’s a crash course: a porter is a traditionally English beer style which mentions of first appeared as early as 1721. The U.S. started brewing its own porters in the 1850s. It’s a brown beer that is well hopped and made from brown malt. Popularity of the beer style rose until WWI, when grains were in demand and afterwards the porter was nearly replaced by the single stout well into the 1950s. A revival came in 1978 when the Penrhos microbrewery started brewing their own version of the porter. Today, many microbreweries around the world are brewing their own distinct version of the porter.
